A Brit & an Earthquake

I had such a great weekend!

Kenny (The Hubby) started life guarding this weekend, I’m almost as excited as he is. I love L.G. season, the camaraderie and the weekend trips to Catalina Island… such fun is in store.

While at the beach on Saturday with some family and friends I overheard a man asking if there was anywhere he could pitch a tent for the night. I interupted and said he should ask my husband at the L.G. tower. Well long story short, after talking wih him for a while we asked him if he would like to stay at our house for the night.

I know this may sound crazy, but well, that’s just us I guess. He had a bicycle all set up with saddle bags, and after some hours of sitting on the beach we discovered that his plan was to cycle from Los Angeles to Argentina over the next 7 months. He had just flown in from England the night before. His name is Graham Rush and you can follow him on his journey HERE. He’s also trying to raise money for unicef and you can see all the info on his Travel Blog.

He’ll be blogging about his experiences as often as he can get to a place with internet. He is an amazing guy and I’m so glad that Kenny and I had a chance to get to know him.

He ended up staying with us the whole weekend, and we had a blast just talking, shopping for a new camera, playing beach volleyball with my friends and then BBQing at our house last night.

 

HAHA I was so excited to write about Graham I almost for got to talk about the second part of my title(above). We had a CRAZY earthquake last night. It was so funny because Graham had never experienced one, at least not one like this. We thought it was quite fitting that it happened while he was still in CA. We even all took a picture(which I’ll have posted shortly) standing in one of the doorframes of my apartment.

Surf Benefit Pictures

A couple of weeks ago Kenny and I heard that one of our favorite musicians would be performing in town for a surf benefit. We decided it would be a nice treat for us, so we decided to go. Well we got to meet him, Jake Shimabukuro, and he signed our ukuleles. It was such a nice night, even though I ended up looking like crap in both the picture with Jake and with Rob Machado (pro surfer). No one could figure out how to take a pic with my camera, including my Hubby, so in both pics I’m laughing and trying to explain to press and hold the button down… geez people…

Good Morning…*yawn

How is everyone this morning? I’m doing pretty good actually. It has been really hard to get out of bed in the morning lately, but I’m workiing on it….

I was CRAZY busy this weekend. I got the opportunity to join the nutrition program offered at the yoga studio I teach at. It was amazing! I am starting a “cleanse” today, it will go on for about 2 weeks.

I won’t get too much into the details but I will say this… I was pretty nervous yesterday, just about the whole thing, what I’m supposed to eat, what I’m not. But, I’m good this morning, I have a great coach, who I already bugged twice yesterday while I was shopping and prepping my food for today. I also convinced “The Hubby” to do the cleanse and whole program with me. Yay.

It was pretty much hilarious when he realized what the portions were… haha….ah Kenny you crack me up.

I’ll keep you up to speed on what I’m eating each day and how I’m doing with food cravings and such. I’m really excited to give my body a fresh start and, after the cleanse, beginning to eat what’s right for me.

 

On another note, Kenny gave me a little challenge. He wants me to find some styles I like for him to wear. He’s usually super casual, he’ s very active, rides a bike everywear. So mostly we don’t know what he should wear when we go out… I did find this pic that I love. I can’t remember the designer now(any ideas?) but I love the fit of the pants and how the soft shirts just seem to lay there, the way they fit is totally appealing and Kenny absolutely has the body to make them work… not a huge fan of the giant scarf on a guy but I could “warm”  up to them…

Anyway… I woke up two hours late today, which means I got to work about two hours late as well. I feel like I’ve been racing around through the last few weeks. Times are crazy for me lately and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon.

 

I will try to post about everything that’s been going on and coming up soon.

For example, I made a 2 layer cake in the shape of a guitar for a friends birthday … it took me nine hours… such a fiasco… details and pictures to come.

 

I just found this picture from december, The Hubby had it stached in his camera since december…. I love it, and it reminds me of how much I love to do cakes, even when the occasional disaster happens… I am my own worst critic…

 

 

Oh and this is one of my favorites of Kenny, he’s so cute when he’s happy. I love it.

Modcloth kills me everytime

I never spend much money on clothes or shoes. My occasional splurging constists of going to the local hole in the wall shop and spending $40 on two dresses or  $30 on  a couple pairs of shoes from GoJane. Even then though I usually spend money when I really need something. For example, I need an LBD (little black dress) and found a super cute one for $20, or I need a staple shoe like black slingbacks for nice events ( I have a wine tasting benefit this Friday, I’ll post more about it later)

 

Well, then I go to Modcloth and SWOOSH! all my shopping will power wants to fly out the window…

 

Here are the latest shoes and dress that I am about to splurge on… don’t let me do it!

Happy Birthday to ME!

I am 24 today! Very exciting, I like the sound of 24 and I like getting older. I like seeing the changes in my face and body, feeling more like a woman every year.  I can almost rent a car, haha. The guys at work pitched in and got me $200 in gift cards to AT&T cuz I’ve been talking about the Iphone alot lately. Oh and an Iphone clear cover! AwesomeI I’m excited too because you can access Skype via the web, I love skype free online calling to anywhere in the world, so I can call my friends in Italy, England and even Africa! (haha I sound like an infomertial) They all sang to me and even my hubby and Don (our Associate Pastor, who we are really close with) were there to join in!

Great morning! All my friends have texted me to wish me a happy birthday, that’s the best part of birthdays. I love the calls when a friend (or mom) calls sounding all tired to sing, then go back to bed. haha

This is bound to be a great weekend. I have the Company Christmas party on Thurday night, a Younglife Christmas party Friday night, then Mel’s “My mom is out of town” party later Friday night, Corepower Yoga Christmas Party Saturday night, then Finallly my Birthday Party later Saturday night! Woo Hoo!!! I’m so blessed to have the friends I do, the family, the job, the jeep(even though it broke down last night). I am so blessed and loved. Thank you all! Even you bloggers, thanks for coming to my little space and reading about my life.

My Love

EEK, this wEEK!

I have been so busy this week. However it’s been good. I’ve been able to focus a bit more at work, hence the gap between posts. Work is good, busy. My step brother and his GF Shelli(?) whom I’ve seen once in the past few years just had their first baby, Daren. He is named after my Step Dad. I LOVE babies, I am a woman after all. I wish that this part of my family was closer, with time perhaps.

Kenny and Iwere talking about what we would do if we were prego right now. I was panicking of course because we both want me to be a stay at home mom and right now I’m making all the $. Then we realized that we could get into student family housing through the state because Kenny was a foster kid and gets his full time school paid for (including living arrangements at a four year school), WHOOP! No more stress, rent would be paid and Kenny could work  part time to make the “bill money”. I could keep teaching yoga, which is what I want to do anyway and keep doing airbrush tanning at the house. I love how understanding Kenny is, he’s so willing to sit and listen to all my crazy planning and stressing. Of course I would rather not have babies for a couple more years but we’ll see what happens. Babies, Babies, Babies…

 

P.S. Is it possible to love your nephews too much? I just might….

Kenny’s b-day party

Kenny’s party was a great success. We had 12 of our really close friends together and had a great time. The cake turned out awesome! Even better than I had hoped and it looked great too! We had wine, hookah, flip cup tourneys and the boys even played some beer pong. We are not big partiers, but it sure was fun to host people again and have some good laughs. The girls made a wine run and ended up on the little mechanical horse outside of Stater Bro’s, taking pictures of course…haha good times. We ended the party with a round of Scene It (my favorite game). Kenny got a head light, which he has wanted for a while, a couple cigars, a bottle of Cavasia(is that spelled right?), and a gift card to REI. He was so excited to have his friends together and the presents helped a bit too. haha. Even our neighbor Mo came up to share a beer with him. The party ended with Kenny and I, and Nicole and Peter heading to Norm’s for a late night snack at like 1:35. At 1:40 Nicole gets a frantic call from our friend Patty, Peter’s sister, who was also at the party with her boyfriend Brandon and friend Cody. They had witnessed a horrible car accident on Edinger and Goldenwest. Basically we arrived before the firetrucks did and the car was competely engulfed. Brandon and Cody tried to run over to help the man trapped inside but couldn’t even get within 20 feet of the car. Patty was very upset and all we could do was watch. There wasn’t even any attempt made to get him out of the car because of the flames. All I can say was it was like a scene from a movie, you never think you’ll see anything like it in your life, and I hope if nothing else it will keep people from driving drunk. Of course now Kenny wants to be a fireman even more than he did before.

I love to bake, why don’t I do it more….

So last night I baked Kenny’s birthday cake, thank goodness for Nicole’s great advice or I would have tried to do the whole thing after work today before his party.  I still have to make the Chocolate-Peanut butter ganache for the top, but that should only take me a half hour or so. Last night I baked 3 layers of sour cream chocolate cake , made the Peanut butter-cream cheese filling/frosting (all from scratch). I snuck a little taste and OH MAN! I think I’m gonna need to buy some extra milk for all the party goers. I was up until just before 2 am baking and frosting and watching “Once Were Warriors” in between.

I love to bake, I always have, although this was my first “big” project. I used to decorate cakes for Baskin Robins and then again for Ralphs and it’s one of my all time favorite things to do. Unfortunately this cake did not call for much decorating, it still looks beautiful. This was the first time I have actually made the cake and frosting and all. It was amazing. I really miss baking, so I decided that from now on I will bake something once a month and share it with my friends. Of course I will blog about it as well, keep you all posted.
